  • Corps warns mariners about underwater pile dikes on Columbia River

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers advises recreational boaters and commercial mariners that recent high water levels may be concealing some pile dikes on the Columbia River.

  • The Dalles Dam tours postponed during construction; Visitor center remains open

    Public tours at The Dalles Lock and Dam are postponed until further notice due to construction activities at the dam. The Dalles Dam Visitor Center is not impacted by the construction and remains open under normal operating hours.

  • Summer recreational vessel lockage schedule begins May 14

    May 14 marks the start of the summer schedule for recreational boaters using navigation locks to travel past U.S. Army Corps of Engineers dams on the Columbia and Snake rivers, according to Corps navigation planners.

  • Corps opens new comment period for Willow Creek Dam draft Supplemental EA and Draft FONSI

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, is providing an additional 30-day public review period for the draft Supplemental Environmental Assessment (SEA) and draft Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) for the long-term release of an additional 1,000 acre-feet of stored water for irrigation from the Willow Creek Dam and Lake Project. The Portland District has not made any changes to either the draft SEA or draft FONSI from the previous review period.

  • Corps drills into Cottage Grove Dam during geotechnical investigation

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Dam Safety team is conducting a geotechnical investigation at Cottage Grove Dam near Eugene, Ore., beginning Thursday, which includes drilling borings in the dam embankment.

  • Corps’ Survey Boat Graham capsizes near mouth of Chetco River

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Survey Boat Graham capsized while working near the mouth of the Chetco River in Brookings at approximately 1 p.m. today. The two crew members onboard were rescued and the boat was recovered.

  • Potential oil spill initiates spill prevention protocol

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has initiated spill prevention protocols today due to the loss of approximately 470 gallons of oil from one of the generating units at The Dalles Dam. The Corps is in the process of determining what happened to the oil. Although there is no evidence the oil went into the Columbia River, the Corps will continue to monitor the waters downstream of the dam.

  • John Day and The Dalles Navigation Locks Reopen to River Traffic Ahead of Schedule

    PORTLAND, Ore. – Officials from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Portland District re-opened the navigation locks at John Day Lock & Dam and The Dalles Lock & Dam today, three days ahead of schedule.
