Corps holds meetings for Detroit Dam fish passage alternatives analysis

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is holding public information meetings to give overviews of alternatives for temperature control and construction, fish collection options and potential staging areas for the fish passage and temperature control project at Detroit Dam and Lake. These meetings are to help the public understand the vast array of alternatives the Corps considered, which included ones submitted by the public.

Corps joins battle against invasive weed in Rock Creek

This summer, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Washington Department of Ecology will battle an infestation of Eurasian watermilfoil, an invasive plant, in Rock Creek with an herbicide treatment. As part of a cooperative agreement with the Klickitat County Noxious Weed Board, contractors will treat the watermilfoil with an herbicide on two days between July 15 and August 31, and the Corps will temporarily close the recreation area.

Corps releases report addressing public comments for Detroit Dam fish passage project

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has completed its analysis of the public’s comments regarding the Corps’ proposed plan to provide downstream fish passage, including temperature control, at Detroit Dam and Lake. This report describes the public scoping process, provides analysis on comments collected, and concludes with a summary on how these comments will be incorporated into the project’s Environmental Impact Statement analysis. Public scoping is the process by which federal agencies solicit public input on the scope of issues and alternatives the agency should address in an EIS as a part of the National Environmental Policy Act.

Major construction on Oaks Bottom habitat restoration begins July 1; Springwater Corridor open through holiday; New closure date July 9

REMINDER: The Springwater Corridor will close at Oaks Bottom Wildlife Refuge before the morning commute Monday, July 9. The trail will remain closed through October 31 for a major restoration project benefiting salmon and other wildlife. This is a hard closure: all hours, all days. Alternate routes are available at www.portland.gov/bes/oaksbottom.

Rogue River Regional Master Plan and Integrated Environmental Assessment - 60% Draft

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Portland District (Corps) is making available for public review the 60% draft Rogue River Regional Master Plan and Integrated Environmental Assessment (EA). The master plan is for the Corps’ Rogue River Projects, which consists of Lost Creek Lake, Applegate Dam, and the Elk Creek Project.

Spill operations for temperature control delayed at Detroit Dam: City of Salem requested delay to allow for testing of new toxin detection equipment

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) will again delay spill operations for temperature control to allow the City of Salem time to implement and train personnel on new equipment and treatment options designed to better test and prevent toxins from entering Salem’s water treatment facility.

Corps reports oil spill at The Dalles Lock & Dam

Today, dam operators from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers confirmed the loss of approximately 53 gallons of oil from one of the generating units at The Dalles Dam. The Corps is dedicated to rapid spill responses and is in the process of determining the exact cause of the spill.
