Corps to Host Public Meeting for Bradford Island Superfund Project

The United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Portland District, hereby notifies interested parties that a public meeting will be held on October 19, 2022, from 5:30-8:00 p.m. to present information on the Bradford Island Superfund project located in Cascade Locks, Ore. The meeting will be both in person and via Zoom. In the meeting, USACE will: 
1)    Hold a “meet and greet” with interested parties
2)    Give an overview of the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA) process 
3)    Discuss next steps in creation of a Community Advisory Group (CAG) and,
4)    Oregon Health Authority will review the fishing advisory near Bradford Island, fish consumption recommendations, and the health effects of polychlorinated bi-phenyls (PCBs) 

Bradford Island is located about three miles west of Cascade Locks, Oregon and 40 miles east of Portland, Oregon. Bradford Island is owned and operated by the USACE and located within the Bonneville Dam complex on the Columbia River. Since 1998, USACE has conducted studies to assess the nature and extent of the contamination and performed limited removal actions, including the removal of electrical equipment and contaminated sediment from the river, to address source concerns. The EPA formally listed the site on the National Priorities List (NPL) on March 16, 2022.

In Person Public Meeting. The in-person meeting will be held at the City of Cascade Locks, City Council Chambers located at 140 SW Wa Na Pa, Cascade Locks, OR 97014. Virtual Public Meeting. There will also be a zoom link available for those who can’t attend in person. The virtual portion of the meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m.
