The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers ale1is users of Lake Bonneville near The Dalles, Oregon, of a restriction of The Dalles Lock and Dam downstream navigation approach channel. Use of the downstream navigation approach channel is restricted to watercraft using the navigation lock only.

The restriction of the downstream navigation approach channel is for public and river traffic safety. Unauthorized use of the downstream navigation approach channel makes it difficult for normal river traffic to use the navigation lock and creates potential safety hazards. Unauthorized users could be exposed to rapidly changing currents released from the navigation lock as it goes through a lock cycle. Violation of the restriction could result in a fine and/or a mandatory court appearance by authority of 36 C.F.R. § 327.12.
