Controlled burns at Fern Ridge protect and preserve
U.S. Bureau of Land Management crews executed controlled burns on about 54 acres at Fern Ridge Reservoir west of Eugene, Ore., Sept. 29-30. These burns are critical to protecting and restoring valuable biological diversity in prairie and savanna ecosystems. The U.S. Forest Service, Nature Conservancy, Lane County and City of Springfield also contributed to these burns. Neighbors’ and user groups’ reactions were uniformly positive. Broad participation from partners and support from the public are typical of the activities of the Rivers to Ridges Partnership, one of our most successful and long-standing relationships.
