    The Corps of Engineers' Northwestern Division led a regional exercise June 14-16 to prepare its teams of emergency planners, operators, and engineers for the possibility of a severe earthquake from the Cascadia Subduction Zone.

    Martha Brandl, Bonneville Dam resident engineer, has three small children (including twins) and a second set of twins on the way in May. With (soon-to-be) five children under the age of 4, Brandl knows full well the struggles of balancing full-time work with the 24/7 role of parent.

    What’s it like being a working mom in 2022?

    We asked our Bonneville Dam Resident Engineer, Martha Brandl, who balances her full-time position as a rockstar on our team with raising three children—including two twins. (That’s soon to be five, as Martha is expecting a second set of twins in May.)
  • Liza Wells, deputy district engineer, Portland District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, has had a long and impressive career of “firsts.” In May 2021, Wells became the first woman to serve as deputy district engineer—the most senior civilian at the organization. She was also the first female chief of the district’s Engineering and Construction Division, its Hydraulics and Hydrology Branch, and its Hydraulic Design Section.

    Incredible women of Portland District

    Women play a vital role in developing the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and this great nation. They serve across all career paths in USACE, as leaders and supervisors, engineers and rangers, scientists, and administrators, to name a few. The progress made is astonishing when you consider that in 1903, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers employed just three female clerks and it wasn’t until World War II that two women broke into engineering positions within the Corps. Today, 26 percent of the Portland District workforce are women and while all positions in the Army are open to women, only 18 percent of the total Army is female. Those numbers reflect the progress we still need to make.

  1. In Outlook, right-click the RSS Feeds folder and choose Add a New RSS Feed.

  2. In the New RSS Feed dialog box, enter the URL of the RSS Feed.

    Tip: If you need help finding the RSS feed URL on a website, look for an RSS icon.
     Button image Right-click that icon, and then copy the shortcut to the Clipboard.
    Press Ctrl+V to paste the information from the Clipboard into the RSS Feed location box.
    Choose Add > OK.

Open Internet explorer and open any USACE website. Look for the small RSS icon and click on that icon as show in this image:
