The Dalles navigation lock to close for repairs

Published Nov. 28, 2012

PORTLAND – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will close The Dalles navigation lock between 6 a.m. Dec. 5 and 6 p.m. Dec. 7 for repairs to its downstream gate.  Navigation locks at Bonneville and John Day dams will remain open for normal operations.

The Corps of Engineers will replace a bushing on the south downstream miter gate gudgeon arm pin.  The bushing attaches the top of the gate to the lock wall and allows the gate to move during operations.

The Corps expects the repairs to allow the lock to operate until the annual Columbia-Snake rivers two-week lock closure in March 2013.  During that closure workers will replace the remaining three bushings, the remaining one located on the south gate and two on the north gate.
