Dredging begins at the mouth of the Columbia River

Portland, Ore. -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will begin dredging operations at the Mouth of the Columbia River, August 1.


Commercial and recreational fishermen who have equipment in the area should consult the U.S. Coast Guard’s Local Notice to Mariners for specific information about dredging and sediment placement locations. This notice is can be viewed at www.navcen.uscg.gov/?pageName=lnmDistrict&region=13.
 
The Corps dredges the mouth of the Columbia River annually to maintain the federal navigation channel for commercial shipping. The Corps’ dredging project manager expects to remove 4 million cubic yards of sediment from the mouth and dredging operations to be completed by December 15.
