Corps warns boaters of Lost Creek Reservoir debris

PORTLAND, Ore. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers warns boaters that a large amount of floating debris has accumulated at the upper end of Lost Creek Reservoir, on the Rogue River about 28 miles northeast of Medford, Oregon.

The debris spans almost the entire width of the reservoir immediately downstream of Peyton Bridge and then runs along the south bank for about one-half mile.

“Floating debris in the reservoir is not uncommon, but this is a very large amount in one spot,” said Rogue River Basin Project operations manager Jim Buck. “The Takelma Park boat ramp and most of the reservoir west of Catfish Cove and Stewart State Park is still pretty clear, but boaters should maintain an adequate lookout and safe speed for debris at all times.”

The reservoir experienced one of the highest inflows since construction of the dam in late December, which contributed to this unusual debris accumulation. The Corps is in contact with the Oregon State Marine Board and Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, and will monitor the changing condition and location of the debris.
