  • Corps, sponsor ports host open houses on 20-year dredged material placement plan

    Army planners and Columbia River sponsor ports are hosting five virtual information sessions April 26-28 to update the public on their 20-year plan for managing dredged material from the Lower Columbia River.
  • Corps plans Depoe Bay dredging, after environmental assessment

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will begin dredging Depoe Bay, Ore. to remove 2,000 cubic yards of material between September 13 and the end of the month. The work will take place for seven to 14 days and is an effort, with the City of Depoe Bay, to clean out the sediment catch basin.
  • Honoring the Heroes of an Historic Sea Rescue

    On Sept. 10, 1957, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers hopper dredge William T. Rossell received an award for a spotless two-year safety record. Hours later the Rossell was struck by a freighter. What followed was one of the most dramatic events in the history of the Coos Bay – the helicopter rescue of 15 sailors from the rapidly sinking vessel.
