Corps of Engineers delays opening Plymouth, LePage campgrounds

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Portland District will delay the opening of Plymouth and LePage campgrounds.

The campgrounds, which were originally scheduled to open to the public April 15, will now open May 9.

USACE is experiencing challenges providing recreation activities for the public this year due to resource constraints. The delay allows USACE to ensure campground facilities comply with health and safety standards for the upcoming recreation season.

“We understand that delayed park openings can be disappointing and impact people’s plans to enjoy these recreation areas,” said Melissa Rinehart, chief of Natural Resources Management for the Portland District. “We want to emphasize that visitor well-being is our priority, so we’re delaying campground opening to ensure our staff can provide safe experiences for our visitors.”

Recreation sites may open or close with little advance notice. USACE asks visitors to respect posted closures and any associated signs, flagging, or barriers.

For alternate camping options within and east of the Columbia River Gorge:
