Chinook salmon passing Bonneville Lock and Dam
Each year thousands of fish like these Chinook salmon migrate upstream to their natal streams. When they reach the stream where they hatched, they will spawn and then die. Biologists count salmon and steelhead heading upstream to spawn; this year’s numbers are looking good, with forecasts for a great fall salmon run. You can watch the fall salmon run through September at Bonneville's fish viewing windows, or year-round through our fish cams at http://go.usa.gov/5wgC Steelhead and sockeye salmon are having big returns so far. A record 2,270 sockeye passed Lower Granite Dam on the Snake River on July 24, 2014, breaking 2010's record count.
