320 years ago on Jan. 26, 1700, the Pacific Northwest experienced an estimated 9.0 magnitude earthquake. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Portland District continues to evaluate potential impacts to its dams in the Willamette, Rogue and Columbia River regions to prepare for a future earthquake event.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Portland District will begin refilling Detroit Dam reservoir up to an elevation of 1450 feet from now through Jan. 31. The Corps will continue spillway gate rehabilitation work on two of Detroit Dam’s spillway gates while refill begins.
Due to low water levels in several Corps reservoirs in the Willamette Valley, Corps officials are warning reservoir users of potential hazards.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Dam Safety team is conducting a geotechnical investigation at Cougar Dam beginning today, Friday, Sept. 20.
This year, Blue River Dam turns 50-years-old, and marks the 50th commemoration of the completion of the entire system of U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ 13 dams in Oregon’s Willamette Valley, which has been systematically protecting people, infrastructure and a way-of-life since 1969.
