Juvenile salmonid habitat

Bottom et al. (2001) defined the area most likely used by ocean type juvenile salmon as the surface of the water to a depth of 2m. Also, the fish are able to reside in areas where current velocities are below about 30 cm s-1. Using these criteria, fish in the region near Astoria would utilize beaches and marsh channels at depths ranging between about +2.5m and -2.0m MLLW, where current velocities are relatively low.
