PORTLAND, Ore. -- Bonneville Lock and Dam invites future geologists and their families to Geology Day, May 23, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Bradford Island Visitor Center.

The Columbia River Gorge has been pushed up out of the ocean, shaken by earthquakes, covered by ash and mud flows from erupting volcanoes, covered by thick lava flows and devastated by landslides.  Visitors can enjoy kid-focused geology activities that help explore some of these changes.

Visitors can learn how the Columbia River Gorge has been, and continues to be, changed through time by its unique geology and why it’s important to be prepared for a natural disaster. The event is perfect for the entire family.

The Bradford Island Visitor Center is located off Interstate 84 at exit 40 and is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Planning a family trip to Bonneville? Enjoy the Columbia Gorge scenery at our picnic areas and the Robins Island playground during your visit.
