PORTLAND, Ore. – Public tours at The Dalles Lock and Dam are postponed until further notice due to construction activities at the dam.

“We hope to provide tours later in the summer and will inform the public when a tour schedule has been developed,” said Amber Tilton, The Dalles Lock and Dam park ranger.

The Dalles Dam Visitor Center is not impacted by the construction and remains open under normal operating hours. The visitor center is open Friday through Sunday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., beginning in May to Memorial Day weekend. After Memorial Day, the center begins daily operations seven days a week through Labor Day weekend. Weekend only operations resume on Labor Day through the end of September.

"Although tours are postponed, the public can still visit the visitor center to learn about the dam’s history, operations, how power is generated and how fish pass through the dam. Explore a variety of interactive displays, watch a short film about The Dalles Lock and Dam or browse the Discover Your Northwest bookstore. Seufert Park remains open to visitors as well," says Tilton.

The Dalles Dam Visitor Center is located just north of Interstate 84 at exit 87. After exiting the highway, turn east onto Bret Clodfelter Way and follow the road to the visitor center. For more information, please contact The Dalles Lock and Dam Ranger Office at 541-506-7857 or 541-296-9778, or visit the dam’s website at www.nwp.usace.army.mil/locations/Columbia-river/the-dalles.
