Corps talks upcoming projects with potential contractors

Published Oct. 17, 2016
PORTLAND, ORE. – Business representatives interested in working with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers are invited to the upcoming fiscal year 17 Industry Day. Those who attend will learn about future Corps projects and how to compete for them. The event is Nov. 2 at the 911 Federal Building at 911 N.E. 11th Ave., Portland, Oregon. Seating is limited and registration is required. See details below.

The Corps’ Industry Day events are designed to introduce businesses to the government acquisition process, which has its nuances. The Nov. 2 event will include a briefing on fiscal year 17 opportunities, information about job site safety, and a panel of experts to answer questions about proposal development and the evaluation process.

The Corps is searching for businesses that provide services and products the District needs to accomplish its missions.

“We have several diverse projects coming our way in 2017,” said Tracy Wickham, chief of the Portland District’s Contracting Division. “We need businesses that provide everything from supplies and materials to construction services.”

The Portland District has one of the Corps’ most comprehensive and diversified civil works programs in the Nation. It awards contracts totaling $150 million to $180 million annually for construction projects, Architect-Engineering services, and supplies and services.

The Corps is dedicated to developing small businesses and maximizing their opportunities to take part in the federal procurement process. Business owners who want to compete for government contracts have an ally in the Corps, whose specialists will help them learn to navigate the labyrinth of rules and requirements that are the Federal Acquisition Regulations. Industry Day events provide for a broad base of suppliers to support the mission and strengthen the Nation’s economic development.
