Corps to host Rogue water management planning call

Published April 16, 2015
PORTLAND, Ore. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and its partners will hold their next conference call April 21 at 2 p.m. to plan Rogue River Basin Project summer water management operations.

This is an interagency work session, but the public is welcome to listen in by calling 877-336-1829 and entering access and security codes 2221310 when prompted. Presentations accompanying the call can be viewed at https://www.webmeeting.att.com, meeting number 877-336-1829, access code 2221310.

Public questions and comments will not be addressed at this session, but can be directed to representatives of the appropriate agencies at other times.

The Corps works with a variety of federal and state environmental protection, fish and wildlife, and water resource agencies to develop its annual May through October water management plan. Initial discussions start in February.

February’s discussions and recommendations are followed by preliminary reservoir refill projections in March, and then draft water release recommendations in April. The process is continually informed by snowpack and water supply forecasts.

The Rogue Basin water management plan is usually finalized in May, although mid-summer alterations are often made due to changing weather conditions and water availability. The 2014 plan is available at http://www.nwp.usace.army.mil/Locations/RogueRiver/LostCreek.aspx. The 2015 plan will be posted at the same location.

William L. Jess and Applegate dams contribute to a water resource management system that provides flood damage reduction, fish and wildlife enhancement, irrigation, municipal and industrial water supply, power generation, water quality improvement and recreation on the Rogue and Applegate rivers.  For more information, visit http://www.nwp.usace.army.mil/Locations/RogueRiver.aspx.
