Construction to begin in Schwarz Park

Published Dec. 5, 2014

PORTLAND, Ore. – Joggers, dog-walkers and other off-season visitors to Schwarz Park near Cottage Grove, Ore., will have their serenity temporarily disrupted by minor construction over the next few weeks.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is upgrading the existing volunteer camp-host sites and constructing four additional full hook-up sites near the front of the park, located on Shoreview Drive just below Dorena Dam.

Work crews will begin site surveys on Dec. 10, and construction is likely to start the following week.

“During construction, we are asking park visitors to be cautious around the work area,” said Park Manager Tami Schroeder.  “Due to safety concerns, people should keep their children close by and have their pets on a leash.”

The upgrades will allow park rangers to recruit up to 14 highly-skilled volunteers each season to assist visitors and perform maintenance in local Corps-managed parks. This volunteer work results in improved customer service, better-maintained facilities and grounds, and significant operational cost savings.

The upgrades are being funded through the Corps’ National Recreation Adjustment Plan, which supports local projects that promote efficiency and sustainability while continuing to provide high-quality recreation opportunities.
