PORTLAND, ORE. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will open The Dalles Lock and Dam Visitor Center for the 2014 recreation season. Beginning May 2, The Dalles Dam Visitor Center will be open to the public Friday through Sunday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

The Corps of Engineers invites visitors to explore a variety of interactive displays, watch a short film on the benefits and impacts of the dam, get a sneak peak of fish migrating through the fish ladder, enjoy a weekend dam tour, or browse the Discover Your Northwest bookstore.

The weekend-only operating schedule will continue through Memorial Day weekend; beginning May 27 the visitor center will resume daily operations. The daily operating schedule will continue until after Labor Day weekend, when the visitor center resumes its weekends-only through the end of September.

Visitors can learn about hydropower, navigation, recreation, fish passage and much more during a guided tour of the dam, offered every Saturday and Sunday at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Please pre-register for tours as space is limited.
