PORTLAND, Ore. — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers alerts residents and visitors that Foster Dam Road on the South Santiam River just east of Sweet Home, Ore., will close Nov. 6-7 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Daytime access to North River Road from U.S. Highway 20 is available via Quartzville Road about 2 miles east of Foster Dam Road, or Pleasant Valley Road about 4 miles west.

The closure is needed to accommodate dive operations.  Divers will be inspecting parts of the dam affected by the upcoming construction of the new adult fish collection facility.

The road over Green Peter Dam on the Middle Santiam River 11 miles northeast of Sweet Home will close Nov. 5 to Dec. 14, with the exception of Nov. 22-25.

The Corps will be removing downstream fish passage structures at the dam that are no longer in use and prevent research into more efficient passage options.  The work requires the use of a large crane that will completely block the road.
