Corps seeks comments on proposed Wahkiakum Ferry channel project

Published June 20, 2014

PORTLAND, ORE. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is seeking public comments on the draft environmental assessment for the proposed Wahkiakum Ferry federal navigation channel realignment and widening. The channel is in the Columbia River at river mile 43.5 in Wahkiakum County, Washington.

The proposed action would realign and widen the existing channel to accommodate the continuous, safe and reliable use by Wahkiakum County’s new, wider and longer ferry, the M/V Oscar B. The new channel configuration would provide the ferry a wider turning radius to and from the Puget Island ferry berth.

The draft environmental assessment describing potential impacts associated with the action is available for public review on the Portland District website at http://www.nwp.usace.army.mil/Media/Announcements.aspx.

For questions or comments regarding the draft environmental assessment, contact Greta Smith by email at gretchen.v.smith@usace.army.mil. Comments can also be submitted by mailing them to: District Engineer, Portland District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Attn: CENWP-PM-E/Greta Smith, P.O. Box 2946, Portland, OR, 97208-2946.

Comments must be postmarked by July 19, 2014, and should reference public notice CENWP-PM-E-14-05.
