PORTLAND, ORE. - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is accepting applications for friendly, customer service-oriented volunteers at Plymouth Park in Plymouth, Wash., and LePage Park near Rufus, Ore., to assist visitors and help maintain the grounds during the 2014 recreation season.

Volunteer hosts must be willing to work weekends from April through October 2014, and wear the volunteer uniform while on duty. Volunteers must to provide their own living accommodations, such as a camper; the Corps will provide electricity (30 amps), sewer and water hookups and any additional work-related items.

Plymouth Park is located on the Washington shore of the Columbia River and offers a variety of recreational activities, including camping, swimming, wildlife viewing, boating and fishing. Local amenities include a restaurant and a post office. Additional services and facilities are available at Umatilla, Ore., which is directly across the Columbia River, about six miles from Plymouth. Kennewick, Pasco and Richland, Wash., are located about 30 miles north of Plymouth.

LePage Park is located in north central Oregon in Sherman County, near the mouth of the John Day River and is accessed from exit 114 off Interstate 84. It is about five miles east of Rufus, Ore., and about 30 miles east of The Dalles, Ore. The steep bluff west of LePage Park provides some protection from the prevailing west winds.

Wildlife includes Canada geese, mallards, pheasants, quail, chukar, rattlesnakes, porcupine and deer. Summer months are typically dry and occasionally hot. Windy conditions are common during most of the season. LePage Park is very popular during warm summer days; the campgrounds are usually full on the weekends.
