  • Corps anticipates insufficient water year

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Portland District is anticipating an insufficient water year as it refills its 13 Willamette Valley and two Rogue River Basin reservoirs for the upcoming recreation season.

  • South Jetty rehab close parts of Fort Stevens State Park

    South Jetty rehabilitation will temporarily close the observation tower at Lot “C” at Fort Stevens State Park beginning April 19. Lot “C” and the bathrooms remain open for public access but the tower will be closed until further notice. Construction progress will determine the reopening date and a separate announcement will follow.
  • The Dalles lock set to open after emergency repairs

    The Dalles Lock and Dam navigation lock will return to service March 31 at 6:30 a.m. Technicians are finalizing repairs on cracking engineers found in the downstream miter gate during annual inspections. This return to service is 36 hours earlier than officials initially predicted.
  • Unexpected damage extends navigation lock outage at The Dalles Dam

    Technicians inspecting the navigation lock at The Dalles Dam found cracking in the downstream miter gate during an annual inspection March 10. U.S. Army Corps of Engineers officials believe vibration, improper sealing and gate misalignment likely caused the damage.
  • Corps considers plan to reduce Detroit Reservoir maximum pool elevation

    Portland District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers considers a plan to reduce Detroit Reservoir’s maximum pool elevation by five feet beginning this summer to reduce the likelihood of overstressing the spillway gates during a large earthquake, which might impact boat ramp access in some years.
  • Columbia and Snake river navigation locks will close March 6 for annual maintenance

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Portland and Walla Walla districts will close all Corps navigation locks on the Columbia and Snake rivers March 6 at 6 a.m. for regularly-scheduled annual inspections, preventative maintenance and repairs.
  • Logging temporarily closes parts of Lost Creek Lake recreation areas

    Upcoming logging will temporarily close Four Corners and Fire Glen campgrounds, as well as nearby portions of the Rogue River Trail, Mar. 1 – Apr. 30, 2021 at Lost Creek Lake.
  • Army Corps of Engineers requires face masks at all recreation projects

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reminds all visitors, volunteers and employees that a face mask is required in all USACE buildings and facilities. Masks must also be worn outdoors on USACE-managed lands and recreation areas if physical distancing cannot be met, such as when hiking on trails or visiting sites that may be popular or crowded
  • UPDATE: Jan. 13 John Day Dam oil spill amount increases after further inspection – now 65 gallons

    After continued inspections and repairs of failed equipment from a Jan. 13 oil loss, technicians at John Day Dam are now reporting the total loss oil to be 65 gallons. The original estimate (Jan. 13) was a loss of 25 gallons.
