Ranger Jesse Brownlee is one of two Natural Resource Specialists kayaking on Bass Lake near Bonneville Lock and Dam, searching for the Western Painted turtle, a species native to this area. She is accompanied by Skip Fowler, a supervisory park ranger, who is also involved in this important environmental stewardship effort. By working together, Jesse and Skip are following one of the key principles of water safety: don't go out on the water alone. Even when the water is calm and the weather is clear, being out with someone else is safer--and in this case, can also get the work done more quickly.
